I am opposed to transfer of administration and control of Nancy Island from MECP to MTCG by removing Nancy Island from the PPCRA and including it under the HPA.
The island offers important dune habitat to the piping plover, a threatened species. Under the intended management of this land, development can be allowed under the provincial government's implementation of Bill 5; the environmental protection of this habitat under Bill 5 is vanishingly evident.
In addition Nancy Island is of great historic significance and it should not be impacted, exploited or diminished from its natural state.
The government should be adding land to parks and important habitats, not taking land away from permanent establishment and protection.
