Wasaga beach os home to an areas of wildlife that depend on the protection of the government from development. Changing the waterfront and potentially building closer to it will only negatively impact the ecosystem. Wasaga is actively building townhomes, condos and other places of residence. There are surrounding areas prime for development that are not in close proximity to a water body and would provide a long-lasting setting for housing without negatively impacting the environment, or cause any mass flooding events. As developing wasaga closer to the beach front could impact the integrity of the shoreline and could lead to even more flooding events in the area - in direct opposition of the floodplain act in ontario.
