Provincial Park and Conservation Reserve land should never be for sale. They are dedicated to all Ontario residents, and the intent is to preserve the land for future generations, As Ontario's government you should be leading the effort to increase protected natural areas across the province, not sell them off for development. It is extremely concerning that part of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park could be sold, especially as by changing legislation it makes it easier for your government to sell off other parkland, through shady deals, in the future.
There are many reasons why Wasaga Beach Provincial Park should not be sold. Firstly is is part of two separate Areas of Natural and Scientific Interest (ANSI's). The Life Science "Nottawasaga River Spit", and the Earth Science "Wasaga Beach Provincial Park and Wasaga Backlands Park Reserve". ANSIs are important because they protect unique and scientifically significant natural landscapes and features, contributing to biodiversity conservation, scientific research, and education.
The park, specifically the beaches also provide crucial habitat for many endangered and threatened species. The NHIC data lists that there are several Colonial Waterbird Nesting areas, and too many individual species to list here. However this information can be found in the attached link.
The park is also culturally significant to both indigenous and non-indigenous communities. Selling off land for development will forever destroy this significance.
As I said originally Provincial Park and Conservation Reserve land should never be for sale.
