I strongly oppose the proposed legislative changes to enable the Town of Wasaga Beach’s Tourism Enhancement Proposal. Wasaga Beach is one of the few nesting grounds in Ontario for the endangered piping plover. These birds return each year to the same stretch of beach to breed, and their survival depends on undisturbed shoreline habitat. Weakening protections under the Provincial Parks and Historical Parks acts for the sake of tourism sets a dangerous precedent and directly threatens an already fragile species. I expect better environmental leadership from my government, and I will keep this in mind when I vote.
