While I strongly oppose the excessive use of MZOs in Ontario - orders intended to bypass meaningful consultation and advance the interests of business over communities - in this instance, it may be helpful in advancing a previously approved project that has been delayed due to CN Rail's overzealous attempt to prevent future litigation from frustrated homeowners and residents of the new Jamesville development. The private rail company has held up redevelopment for years, all to protect their company (and, ultimately, bottom line) from legal action that may or may not happen in the future. Their single-minded focus on their own corporation has created incredible harm in a community desperate for housing and investment. I support this MZO, if only to expedite a process that began years ago. Opposition to the MZO in the community is based partially on a fundamental lack of understanding among angrier members of the electorate regarding the division of powers in the province and partially on a dislike of the current city councillor for the area who inherited the Jamesville file from his predecessor. Denying the MZO based on the ignorance of a loud minority in the community would be the height of irresponsibility.
