My wife and I have been lifetime visitors of Ontario Provincial Parks and these protected publicly owned spaces mean a great deal to us both personally and as citizens. They are a publicly owned heritage and allow us to experience a variety of natural habitats as well as some unforgettable memories acquired camping.
I was appalled but sadly not surprised to hear of the provincial government's plan to sell 60% of prime publicly owned beach at Wasaga Beach Provincial Park to undisclosed private interests as part of a tourism development plan. I read "development" to mean commercialization, higher priced access or no access whatsoever and disregard for the environment and native species. The Town of Wasaga Beach and the provincial government both have a poor track record for respect for the environment. This is also an existential threat to the rest of the parks in Ontario if you can get away with this.
Considering Wasaga Beach is one of the most if not the most popular provincial parks in the province I just hope this wakes people up to the fact that "Uncle Doug" is not a nice guy. He wants to take away our parks, sell them off while he luxuriates in his own family's private wealth. In other words he doesn't give a crap about the parks except as assets to sell. This is the prime message coming out of your actions.
Since barely 20% of the voting population actually voted for the conservative "majority" you should tread more carefully to avoid waking the sleepwalkers who voted just PC because Doug Ford has a nice smile and a superficially friendly demeanour.
