Wasaga Beach is a rare and ecologically sensitive landscape, home to critical dune systems and designated habitat for species at risk, including the endangered piping plover. For years, local stewardship programs—supported by park staff, conservation authorities, and volunteers—have helped protect this fragile bird and its nesting areas.
This proposal offers no information or assurances about the future of these protections. There is no mention of how the Town of Wasaga Beach or private developers will uphold the federally and provincially mandated protection measures for the piping plover. What will happen to these established programs? Who will be held accountable if critical habitat is disturbed or lost?

Removing these lands from the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act (PPCRA) would strip away essential oversight, enforcement, and resources that ensure environmental safeguards are maintained. Once in private hands, there is no binding obligation to prioritize ecological protection. Say NO to this proposal!
