I regularly climb in various places across Ontario, nationally, and internationally. Ontario has some of the most restrictive access to climbing that I have seen worldwide. It is important that recreational land users of all types are permitted access to our public land. Climbers regularly clean up after hikers and many of us are very serious about good stewardship of the land. Officially permitting climbing at Devil's Glenn brings Ontario one small step closer to the higher standard of access set elsewhere in Canada and internationally. We will continue to demonstrate that we, too, can use parks responsibly. While hiking is commonly understood, the unfamiliarity of climbing to some seems to prevent our sport from having a venue. This is a step in the right direction.
I encourage Ontario Parks to consider where else climbing may be permitted to bring it up to par with British Columbia, Alberta, etc.
