- In favour of additional space to improve amount of protected & properly managed lands
- In favour of inclusion of rock climbing due to social and economic benefits, and general respectfulness of this outdoor user group
- Improved access to outdoor activities for mental health benefits is a plus.
- Day use fee potential should be reviewed to avoid limiting access based on wealth. Outdoors (hiking, climbing, nature appreciation) should not be limited to those with the financial means to enjoy it.
- Suggest amendment to “Climbing Practices” in Appendix III (page 24). “No free climbing” should be re-worded to “No free solo climbing”. Free climbing is a roped activity utilizing anchors, ropes harnesses and other safety equipment for protection.
- Suggest bouldering be reviewed as part of ongoing collaboration for it’s inclusion as an acceptable activity in the future. Bouldering is a lower cost alternative to roped climbing and allows for enjoyment by more of the population. Of course, it should only be implemented where the ecological impact can be suitably managed.
