I am writing in strong support of the proposed amendment to the Devil’s Glen Provincial Park Management Plan, specifically the inclusion of rock climbing as a permitted activity.

Rock climbing has played a central role in my discovery of Ontario’s incredible natural beauty. Although I moved to Toronto in 2015, it was only in 2021, through climbing, that I began venturing beyond the city. Since then, Ontario Parks have provided me with opportunities not only to connect with nature, but also to visit new communities, support local businesses, and build meaningful connections with fellow citizens across the province. Expanding access to climbing at Devil’s Glen will enrich my own life, and it will open the door for many others to strengthen community ties through shared outdoor experiences.

The climbing community is known for its respect and care for the environment. Climbers are committed to practicing low-impact recreation and leaving natural spaces better than they were found. By welcoming climbers, the park would gain a dedicated group of long-term stewards—people deeply invested in protecting the landscape, supporting conservation goals, and ensuring the park’s sustainability well into the future.
