The Black Bay walleye rehabilitation is a project the MNR should be proud of. When I first received the email for proposed changes I truly believed the open walleye zone in black bay would be extended. Instead the MNR is implementing a slot size that is in unrealistic for sport fishing in black bay! The proposed walleye slot size will essentially end the sport fishery all together in the bay. I have fished black bay for nearly 15 years. I do not recall catching a single walleye that falls into the proposed slot size. I don't agree with anglers keeping 30" walleye, but a slot size that would still provide the opportunity for catch and keep is essential.
16" to 25" or something close would protect the walleye population and still provide adequate angling opportunity.
