It is unconscionable that the Ontario government is proposing these changes in the present moment when everyone understands the consequences. We have seen time after time that ecosystems are complex and interwoven systems and we do not know the extent of the harm we cause to them when we don’t protect it as a whole.
The developer who complains about regulations is thinking about their profit margins now, to maybe 10 years out. But we have seen over and over and over that removing regulations has been to the detriment of human populations AND OTHER ECONOMIC SECTORS.
The loss of pollinators should be one of the biggest issues that the Ontario government is addressing. We have are SO lucky to have the farmland we do, both in terms of domestic consumption and export. It makes us fundamentally vulnerable if we cannot supply our own food, especially as climate change drives droughts in other parts of the world. Everyone involved in this proposal should be ashamed that it is even at the comments page and should reflect on their part in weakening Ontario as a good and viable place to live.
We cannot have such a narrow focus if we are to succeed in the coming century. Changes like these will negatively affect everyone alive in Ontario today. The current Ontario government needs to stop bowing to the whims of moneyed interest and start governing for *all* the people of Ontario.
