Climate Action Newmarket Aurora Submission on Bill 60 – Fighting Delays, Building Faster Act, 2025
While improving the efficiency of infrastructure delivery is important, the proposed amendments risk weakening existing environmental protections, reducing public oversight, and eroding accountability for the province, municipalities and developers.
Nine schedules are outlined in the attached document, each raising serious concerns about environmental protection, climate action, transparency, and accountability. These changes collectively threaten Ontario’s climate commitments, water quality, natural heritage, and community resilience.
We urge the government to reconsider these amendments and ensure that efforts to accelerate infrastructure delivery are guided by strong environmental safeguards, transparent decision-making, and a clear commitment to sustainable, climate-resilient transit and community planning.
Climate Action Newmarket respectfully requests that the government:
Reinstate environmental and climate impact assessments for projects affected by these schedules.
Incorporate explicit climate, biodiversity, and watershed protections into development, transit, and water management decisions.
Ensure meaningful public consultation and transparency in planning processes that will shape long-term environmental and climate outcomes.
