I'm writing to protest against Bill 60, because it is not based on evidence! This bill will not fight delays because cars cause delays and not bikes. More people on bikes make roads faster. More delivery people on bikes instead of in cars, make roads faster. The Ford government commissioned research that also says that bike lanes don't cause gridlock.
And it's laughable to say that cutting bike lanes leads to less air pollution! Indeed, cars do make a lot of air pollution and by biking we make no air pollution. We need to design cities to make them more friendly to bikes and pedestrians to stop climate change.
You need to let city councils make their own decisions about what is right for their cities, and respect what the residents are saying. In the last Ontario election, not one person was elected along the Bloor bike lane corridor who supported cutting bike lanes because we don't want our children and neighbours to die - cutting bike lanes makes the roads more dangerous for everyone, not just cyclists, but also pedestrians and drivers. I personally was run over by a car while cycling at Ossington and Harbord and the Harbord bike lane is literally a life saver, as is the Bloor st bike lane.
