I am writing to oppose Bill 60. It is effectively a ban on all new bicycle lanes in all Ontario municipalities. As someone whose primary method of transportation (commuting to work, shopping) is bicycling, I have benefitted and my life has been immeasurably improved by the growth of safe, dedicated bicycle lanes in Toronto. Over the years I have travelled thousands of kilometres by bicycle. This has improved my health, saved time (fastest way to get around), boosted business, and saved tonnes of CO2 emissions. Your statement, "Traffic and congestion are a major source of air pollution especially in urban areas," is true. Preventing the growth of bike lanes will only increase traffic and congestion, creating more air pollution. Please stop this backwards-looking legislation and continue to allow communities to make their own planning decisions around transportation options and climate measures. FYI I also own a car and drive. Thank you.
