This bill goes against strong evidence that making downtown urban streets more accessible to car traffic does not lead to less congestion. Spending money to take out bike lanes or public transit lanes that actually DO lead to less congestion goes against the stated purpose of the bill, which is helping to fight delays.
Also, as a general principle I am very much opposed to the Provincial government taking away power from local municipalities when it comes to making decisions about bike lanes. Local residents deserve to make decisions about how streets in their local municipality are used, NOT provincial officials who may or may not live anywhere near to the streets in question. What is a more local issue than cycling lanes??? I would similarly be opposed to the Federal government stepping in to tell Ontario it must rip up a highway between 2 Ontario cities to make way for a train line. Please stay in your lane, Provincial Government!
