As someone who lives and works closely with the land, I’m deeply concerned that the new Species Conservation Act weakens the protections that have helped keep Ontario’s ecosystems alive.
Replacing permits with “registrations” feels like a shortcut — one that puts trust in paperwork instead of in science, accountability, and care.
We need clear, enforceable protections that don’t rely on self-monitoring. Habitat loss happens quietly, bit by bit, until it’s too late.
Please keep conservation at the centre — not convenience.
These changes seem designed to make it easier for corporations to profit while taking more from the land — as though we’re the only species that matter.
We were never meant to have such dominion over other living beings. Yes, we have clever minds — but let’s use them in the right way.
Stay connected to the heart. Protect what’s left. Steward the land, don’t strip it.
