I'm a driver opposing this proposal because bike lanes actually reduce the traffic I sit in.
Every person on a bike is one less car on the road competing for space with me. When there are safe bike lanes, more people choose to cycle instead of drive, which means less congestion for those of us who need to drive.
I've noticed this on streets like Bloor - yes, there's one less car lane, but there are also dozens fewer cars because people are biking instead. My drive times haven't increased, and sometimes they're even better because the traffic flows more predictably.
This proposal would prevent municipalities from creating alternatives that get other vehicles off the road, leaving me stuck in worse traffic.
