I drive my kids to school and activities, and I oppose this bike lane restriction.
Around schools, there are always kids on bikes mixed with parent drop-off traffic. This is incredibly stressful - I'm constantly worried about hitting a child on a bike who suddenly appears between cars.
Protected bike lanes near schools separate student cyclists from parent vehicle traffic. This makes school zones safer and less chaotic. I can focus on dropping off my kids without the anxiety of cyclists weaving through traffic.
If municipalities can't build protected bike infrastructure near schools, more kids will be forced to either ride in dangerous traffic or be driven (adding more cars). Either outcome makes things worse for parents who drive.
Let cities build the safe cycling infrastructure that reduces the chaos around schools.
