This proposal is incredibly harmful towards endangered species that we are already losing because of urban industry and infrastructure. It is important that we do not amend the endangered species act as this proposal suggests, as it will effectively put many endangered species in harms way. Ontario is home to many important species that maintain the balance of surrounding ecosystems, so removing them can have detrimental impacts on other creatures as well as humans. Prioritizing economic ventures over the health of the lands that we live on is going to end up harming more people from the loss of ecosystem services these species provide. The current protections we have are so important towards ensuring that economic pursuits are screened properly so that they do not harm protected species. If we weaken these protections, these species will suffer and we may lose them altogether. Unique species are apart of the appeal of Ontario, so actively working towards decreasing their numbers will have repercussions that will exacerbate the issues we have in terms of furthering pollution and climate change. Please reconsider the implementation of this bill for the sake of the species that call Ontario home, and for the sake of the people and communities that care and benefit from their services as well.
