I am a life long Ontario resident who is concerned this bill is not based in scientific, engineering, environmental, or planning evidence. I am concerned this bill is only serving as culture war fuel. What Ontarians need is investment in public transportation, rail, walking, and cycling networks in order to decrease car dependence in Ontario. The law of induced demand proves that car-focused infrastructure is a zero-sum game that only leaves car-dependent residents in unsafe driving conditions, increased traffic, and poor health outcomes due to inhaling car fumes five days a week and the negative health impacts of car related stress. It is proven that getting people out of their cars is good for the economy. This is a waste of tax payer dollars and will exasperate the climate crisis.
