I strongly oppose the proposed amendments. It ignores the importance of the environment and biodiversity as well as dismisses important legal checkpoints such as provincial protection. Just because the federal government already has policy does not make local provincial policy redundant. Rather this ensures a more secure process which can more directly be applied in our province. The ford government has repeatedly put its own profit and economic growth over the very livelihood and future of the people of Ontario. These amendments will not make Ontario grow into a successful province. They are simply a way to turn a blind eye and ignore the problem as a whole. As a resident of the oak ridges moraine, protecting these wildlife species (many of which will loose provincial protection under these amendments) is not only a personal goal, but a way of life for everyone in the community. We rely on biodiversity and its success for eco tourism and the property values of our homes. It is our main source of recreation and a strong mental and physical health recourse. The proposed amendments are not only an attack on the environment but the people of Ontario as well.
