The push to delist 106 species from the endangered species list is a decision made in haste, by people with very little knowledge of conservation, and vested interests in developing land inhabited by these endangered species. Any removal of a species from the endangered species list needs to be backed by sound, peer reviewed scientific evidence of population recovery proving population stabilization. Not only is it an unethical decision to stop protections, letting these animals go extinct, it also increases risks of further extinctions with trophic collapses, and destruction of ecosystem functions. Putting the species aside, collapsing ecosystem services and biodiversity will cost the province more money. Overall, these species absolutely should not be delisted, at the very least not without sound scientific evidence proving their stability and population growth.
