As a resident of Ward 3 in Hamilton, Ontario I have serious questions and concerns related to the proposal of York1 Gage Transfer Ltd. to expand their operations to include the processing of construction materials containing asbestos.
As multiple scientific studies show, asbestos particles can stay airborne for multiple days and can travel for kilometers (based on particle sizes). What safety measures, ventilation systems, filters, etc... are going to be added to the facilities to ensure that residents within this radius are not exposed to fine particulate asbestos particles? And given the fact that their are multiple schools, city parks, community centres, libraries and even the Hamilton General Hospital within the radius of airborne asbestos particulate matter is it wise to risk the health of tens of thousands residents to expand the facilities?
As we are all aware, the area within ward 3 in Hamilton has a high rate of cancers, what added screwing measures are to be put in place for the residents who find themselves living or frequting the area that will be impacted?
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
