Comment
I am submitting this comment as someone who lives near York1’s Lottridge Street facility and has experienced firsthand how poorly this company manages its operations and how destructive it has been to our neighbourhood’s welfare. For years, we have dealt with constant dust, noise, and disruption. Despite numerous complaints, these existing concerns remain unresolved. York1 has consistently shown a lack of accountability and an inability to operate in a way that respects the residents of north Stipley.
It is exactly because of these longstanding issues at Lottridge that this new application for the Gage Avenue site is so concerning. The Ministry has received increased complaints from our neighbourhood, and it is their responsibility to recognize that residents are rejecting the use of their community as a literal dumping ground. Switching from one type of waste to another—now adding large-scale soil and rock storage outdoors—does nothing to address the fact that existing problems remain unresolved.
Allowing York1 to expand at Gage Avenue will not only replicate the harm in another nearby part of our neighbourhood but also risks shifting even more burdens back onto those of us already dealing with these impacts. The Ministry must fulfill its duty to protect residents and the environment by denying this application. York1 has not shown it can manage its existing operations responsibly, and expanding their footprint would only compound the damage.
Please reject this proposal. Existing concerns must be resolved before any expansion is even considered.
