I am concerned that the Schedule 10 planning act revisions in Bill 66 pose a threat to our farmland and natural areas by permitting municipalites to approve development that bypasses the safeguards such as the Clean Water Act and the Greenbelt Act which have been created to protect our environment. The preservation of farmalnd is critical for the ongoing food security of our communities. The preservation of natural areas is important because of their role as places where water is captured to regenerate our aquifers. They also absorb a lot of water during heavy rainfalls which are more common with climate change thus healping to reduce flood risk. Natural areas also absorb green house gas emissions which is important mitigating the effects of climate change. I strongly oppose Schedule 10 of Bill 66 and urge the government to remove the planning act revisions it contains.
