I understand that we live in a democratic society and my parents escaped a dictatorial communist society. This Bill is undemocratic and potentially very damaging to the environment. As much as I support “open for business” I do not believe that this concept can work in isolation or irresponsibly. We have to respect each other and the environment. I am writing to express my strong opposition to Schedule 10 of Bill 66, which introduces “open-for-business by-laws” that would circumvent many of the requirements under several laws to ensure fair, consistent and transparent public engagement in land use decisions and protection of water, natural heritage and human health in Ontario.
Under the guise of cutting red tape, Schedule 10 is a full-scale assault on the environment. Big business must factor the health, natural heritage and quality of life of ordinary Ontarians in its operations. We matter, and we demand that our government respect the well-being of the citizens of this province.
Please remove Schedule 10 from Bill 66.
