I have lived in or near the Ontario Greenbelt for over 10 years, and have seen the damage done to the Greenbelt and the Oak Ridges Moraine by development over that time. It's fundamentally changing the character of the communities in these regions, as well as putting some of the most culturally and environmentally important lands in our province at risk. Schedule 10 of this bill must be removed as it will allow municipalities to override existing legislation and sacrifice the medium and long-term prosperity of our communities for short-term gain. It is also fundamentally anti-democratic, as it no longer requires public consultation for developments.
This bill will not open up Ontario for business, and rather risks closing huge areas of the province down for future prosperity in the next 5 - 10 years.
