According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, comprised of leading experts in this field, the oil and gas industry must significantly reduce carbon emissions within the next year in order to avoid catastrophic climate changed-induced events. It will be impossible to ensure these goals are met if companies are not required to report on indirect emissions. Furthermore, removing these requirements would allow companies to pollute more freely. The government should be more concerned about meeting these targets than "reducing cost and regulatory burdens" for corporations. If this government was truly "for the people", it would put its citizens' health and well-being before corporate profit.
