I disagree with and object to the proposed changes to the Growth Plan which puts our farmland, forests and watersheds at risk and which promotes rather than limits urban sprawl to what end I wonder. We need more affordable housing in this region but lack of land is not the issue. Studies indicate there is more than enough land designated to meet our housing needs to 2031 and beyond. The proposed changes to the Growth Plan rules will discourage compact, walk-able, transit friendly development and allow a return to sprawling developments that eat up irreplaceable farmland and natural areas. This will not reduce the price of housing or give us the new needed housing types.
I also object to the lack of transparency in the proposal process which appears to seek an end without satisfactory public process. I don't believe the government would have a majority currently if these changes had been openly declared on the electoral platform.
