I am writing to communicate my disgust with the proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act.
The proposed changes are heavily biased toward industry. "Open for Business" does not have to occur at the expense of our natural environment. Entirely short sighted thinking. If we destroy our environment, and the ecosystems within them, humans will soon follow.
This is not fear mongering, but science. If you do not involve science and evidence in decision making (which admittedly evolves and changes as we acquire knowledge), policy becomes regressive and dangerous. The world is facing the largest mass extinction since the disappearance of the dinosaurs. Yet the Government of Ontario has proposed to gut Ontario’s gold standard law, bowing to pressure from industry and sprawl developers.
I implore you to review the science and understand the critical link between humans/animals and their natural environment. We have to slow the extinction down, not accelerate it. Please do what is best for humanity; business will come. People need to come first.
