I am writing to Environment Compliance Approval at 35 & 50 Jutland Avenue. Both my son and I have sensitivities to fragrances and environmental allergies. My son's allergist has recommended that we use saline on his nose at night to improve Xavier's breathing at night. In our house, we avoid the use of any kind of hairsprays, body sprays, scented lotions, perfumes and colognes. Every evening when arrive home, I am accosted with the fragrances from the factory. Some may find this enjoyable, but the scents literally make me ill and I find myself trying to rush into my house so don't have to breathe in the fragrances. There are times that I feel my throat feels irritated from the fragrance of the lush products so I do my best not to breathe it in. We often keep our windows closed to avoid having the aromas from the factory enter our home, especially on night when the fragrances are very powerful. We paid a great deal of money when we purchased our home on Trueman Avenue 2 years ago, and at the time I did not know that the Lush Factory was practically in my own back yard. I am very upset that the real estate agent did not bring that to my attention. More members of the community shouId be informed of Lush's operations in our community. If I had known, I would not have purchased the house in this area. I was shocked and appalled to find out that an ECA was issued for this company given it's size, what it manufactures, its proximity to residents, and its lack of filtration systems and buffer zone. My family and I are opposed to any manufacturing plants so close to our residential community. Especially and expanding community such as ours. It is upsetting that the Ministry has not taken any action and it's decisions to date have led me to doubt the Ministry's effectiveness in safeguarding the public and the environment. More needs to be done to inform the public, I had never heard of the Environmental Registry before this problem with Lush, and I am certain that very few members of the public are aware of it. I understand there was a community meeting February 2016, frankly I am shocked the the Ministry would allow the Lush to continue to operate their factory on Jutland Avenue during evenings and weekends. It is crucial for the health of our community members and children that the ministry ensure that better protections are enforced when companies operate next to residential neighborhoods. I ask that Environment Compliance Approval at 35 & 50 Jutland Road be denied. Thank you. Nelly & Fernando Meira
