Though it's quite unclear how the government plans to "modernize" conservation authorities, I am concerned that these changes will result in threats to public safety. Conservation authorities protect our sourcewater, which is crucial for keeping clean drinking water. They also monitor our rivers, so that we know when floods can risk the safety of our community. They also ensure that development stays out of floodplains - to prevent the most easily preventable of flooding disasters. Please maintain core funding to conservation authorities, so that these three tasks: stopping development in floodplains, monitoring floodplains, and protecting sourcewater; can be maintained.
