I have serious concerns with the parts of this legislation that will return to the rules and emphasis of the old Ontario Municipal Board. Developers should not be able to take precedence over the needs of the community. Already, the unfettered development that existed under the old and retrogressive system has led to a housing crisis in our cities.
Large and highly priced condo towers are pushing our young people out of the cities and with them the opportunities to create modern, well paying jobs. Companies will not come to Ontario if their workers cannot afford to live here. Air B and B and absentee foreign owners are taking over what should be vibrant and growing urban communities. Commute times for those working in our cities are costing many hours a day, gridlock, pollution and untenable stress .
Green spaces, so important to our well being and way of living are being paved over and lost. Cities are becoming hollowed out concrete environments and peripheral communities a landscape of big box stores and shopping malls.
Cutting red tape to facilitate projects that everyone wants and that make sense for our growth , well being and prosperity is a good thing. Allowing developers to operate without limits and to pursue only their profits without regard for the community is bad, bad news for Ontario,
