More Canadians than ever are…

More Canadians than ever are against blood sports. Binoculars and cameras are replacing guns all over the world.

You appear to be catering to the declining population who feels entitled to kill another living creature for “sport”. I oppose the spring bear hunt. Not only have you reinstated it, but you are now making it more dangerous for the general public experiencing our wilderness and green spaces outside cities – hiking, backpacking, camping etc. Allowing bear baiting (otherwise known as shooting fish in a barrel) by dumping human food garbage 30 metres from public trails and roads is a disgrace. You are inciting an incident to happen with innocent people and wildlife with the negative consequences that entails.

I do not accept the management of natural systems as an argument for hunting. Mans’ record in managing natural systems has not been exemplary. It may seem cruel but nature can and does manage itself. We need more respect for fellow beings on this planet and that precludes killing them for sport especially in unfair circumstances. There is increasing scientific evidence that every creature is a sentient being, living in a web of connection in their natural environment. How can Canada as a compassionate nation bait and kill its own wildlife for sport and then criticize other countries for exploiting their wildlife – pangolins, elephants, rhinos, giraffes. It is a tough world and we should not make it worse for our fellow creatures.
