As a family doctor in Ontario, I am disappointed in the proposal to reduce the stringency of pesticide regulation. The deterioration of our environment is set to become a leading cause of disease in our near future. We rely on the government to apply regulations that protect the environment, and thus our population. By relaxing regulation, we will see more toxins in our soil, our produce, animals, and thus in our bodies. Not only will there be increased incidence of toxin ingestion and exposure to people (causing direct harms), there will also be deterioration to the ecological system - causing a cascade of negative impacts on human health. I am proud of Ontario for having strict regulation on pesticide use, and would advocate for it to remain as such.
