I support the 3 year interim extension and further that this time be used to find a permanent cottage tenure solution as soon as possible and well before the end of this proposed 3 year time frame. I would much prefer that this interim extension be less than 3 years to ensure that the current government is charged with finalizing a permanent solution within its current 4 year mandate. A 3 year extension could result in cottagers facing uncertainty yet again if there is a new government or a new Minister. This has been the pattern for a number of years which has resulted in uncertainty and frustration on the part of the cottage community. Given we have already been operating under a 2 year interim extension since 2017, I hope and trust that this is a good faith effort to finally resolve this matter. The cottages have been part of the fabric of the park for over 100 years - the ecological integrity of the park is an example of how cottages and the environment have and can continue co-exist. A permanent tenure solution would demonstrate the ability to achieve a balance between the economy and the environment and truly be a win-win for the province, Chatham-Kent and cottagers.
