We should not be moving towards privatizing water access to one of the most ethically bankrupt companies in North America. We should not be encouraging companies to take water access away from small towns and bottling it up to be sold BACK to Canadians. Plastic water bottles are one of the biggest plastic pollutants of our society that we have the power to stop. The Ontario government should be moving towards banning the production and sale of plastic water bottles.
Nestle intends to take 1.6 million litres per day which is roughly the same volume of water used by the village of Elora. It equals the output of three township wells. What business does a multi-billion dollar company have to do something like that other than to profit off of our natural resources. Water shortages are a risk. Their municipal water comes from aquifers deep underground, not from rivers or lakes. Aquifers are recharged with rainwater over decades. The resource is uncertain.
Please do the right thing. Ban Nestle and companies like it from doing something like this. We are in a climate crisis. The people of Ontario want to move towards sustainability and radical climate action.
