There are so many things that can be said, but I will leave my emotions out of my comments. From my experience, the leaseholders are as sensitive as any environmentalists about Rondeau Park. We/they respect what is at stake, to enjoying & protecting the unique “Carolinian Forest” that exists at Rondeau. I can’t comment on other parks, but having worked as a summer student at Rondeau and based on recent visits, I can assure you that “day use” visits, is a shadow of what used to be. I have no idea how much revenue is generated by the leaseholders, to the local economy, but I can tell you how much they would contribute in their absence. As I understand, the recommendations/conditions of the proposed extension, this would be a win/win for preserving the environmental integrity of Rondeau, and even a bigger win/win for the local economy. By extending the leases, the ministry & province have an opportunity to do what’s in the best mutual interest of all stakeholders. I hope that you, the ministry, make the right decision.
