Under no circumstances ought we adopt this “strategy” which lacks even a basic understanding of ecology, ignores decades of forestry science and SES research, undermines commercial values in NTFP, and pays no attention to climate breakdown and the impact on reforestation efforts. The Liberal strategy was itself inadequate to protect our ecological and economic needs yet was pointing us in a good direction as compared to our policies while we were under the influence of a mechanistic world view for biology. Decades of research shows the assumptions in this strategy are simply wrong.
Further this plan undermines our treaty obligations to FNs that they have capacity to share traditional land base alongside Canada’s peoples. RCAP 1996 is ignored and UNDRIP is violated with this license to destroy what is the remaining pockets of planetary boreal forests. This abuse must not be permitted for short term profits in a few hands. It is unconscionable.
