I am a resident who lives in the Port Union neighborhood and I am extremely concerned of this waste disposal site and the potential damages it can bring to this neighborhood. The demographics surrounding 633 Coronatio Drive comprises of many elderly & school aged children. With a newborn on way of my own, I am deeply worried for the health of my family and many other residences in this area.
I also want to point out the impact is not just limited to the environment, with possibly hundreds of trucks that will be added in & out of the site from 401 on daily basis, it drastically elevates the road hazards for the children and elderly (the 2 closest highway 401 exits at Morningside and Port Union will require the trucks to be passing school zones & elderly residential areas on two-lane roads)
I sincerely urge the Ministry of the Environment to consider the following:
1.Reject the application and recommend that it be relocated to another site which is in a more suitable location (similar to the two City processing plants) or a rural location closer to source/destination material and away from residential areas and close to the 401, or
2. Extend the deadline for submission of comments for two months to August 24, 2020, and
3. Hold a public meeting to allow the proponent to fully explain the details of this significant proposal to the local communities that will be impacted, and
4. Request that the City of Toronto Public Health Department conduct a study of the health impacts of this proposal on the affected communities, and City of Toronto Traffic Management do a detailed study to assess the impact of the significant additional heavy truck traffic in residential neighborhoods.
