Yes, I support the enhancement proposal to falconry stated within Environmental Registry Ontario # 019-1806. I had been exposed to falconry from a young age when my parents brought me to bird of prey exhibits and eventually by my father who practices the art. I personally don’t practice falconry but continue to enjoy the sport with my father when I accompany him into the field. I also continued to visit the bird of prey exhibits at festivals and outdoor events, amazingly I learn something new every time about our natural resources from the falconer representatives. These experiences with birds of prey has created a fascination with the intricacies of our ecosystem and I have a more profound respect for our natural environment. I had learned falconers have played an important role in raptor conservation initiatives. Therefore, allowing falconers to have greater access to common wild raptors the MNRF is encouraging more citizen science which our society is in need of. And as described above, falconers are active “volunteer natural resource educators” to the public which is important when our society is so disengaged from our natural resources due to our technological attachment. As what was specified within the proposal the MNRF is implementing a change that has been successful in other provinces and U.S. states for decades, is thoroughly recorded and scientifically sound. Thank you.
