The mis-use of MZOs is something that must stop. The original intention of giving the minister a way to bring about a planning challenge for the public long term good is too often being abused by this government. MZOs for corporate interests that often go against good environmental planning, such as allowing a donor to the current government to fill a provincially significant wetland and build on it, such as going against municipal planning and heritage designation and demolish heritage buildings with no consultation with the municipality, such as allowing the destruction of prime agricultural land for corporate development, going against ontario farm organizations and local municipalities. These are blatantly wrong and we will remember!
Planning acts and regulations have often taken bipartisan efforts over many years. To mis-use this procedure and undermine good planning for short term gain for political donors is wrong and must stop!
