MZOs are already being recklessly misused to force through controversial and destructive new
sprawl developments with no public discussion, and no right of appeal—destroying irreplaceable
habitats and farmland for the benefit of developers vs (as intended) as extraordinary measure to
let provincial governments tackle genuine emergencies.
Any legislation attempting to expand authority to invoke MZOs must be stopped.
There is no valid excuse for it— COVID or economic or housing.
There is no way on God’s green earth that Conservation Authorities should be required to issue a
‘permit’ for MZOs; and removing municipal use of site plan control via MZOs is unacceptable.
What is truly needed is outright elimination of this dangerous, destructive tool—not expansion.
