I am expressing my support for the expansion of the greenbelt. Expansion has to be done in a way that respects our green spaces, natural heritage, and wildlife. It must serve to de-fragment provincially significant wetlands, forests, marshes, and farmland. Any proposed development on or around existing greenbelt lands must be carefully scrutinized by a panel of independent experts and cannot be subject to new legislation that favours the interests of development companies, private donors, and land speculators. Any new development must be done in an environmentally sensitive manner and any new projects must be specific and open to adequate public consultation on the specific requirements of that particular project. In sum, expansion of the greenbelt must be done in a smart way that supports our natural spaces and ecosystems, and any proposed development must be subject to independent environmental assessment and public scrutiny.
Thank you for your consideration.
