Conservation areas and the ability to use them with respect (i.e having trails and supporting amenities) are a key part of community, aid mental health, and enable connection to nature in the best way possible. Further, it should be free and accessible for all people. It would be devastating to not have trails and public free access or to have to rely on donations, polarizing who has access. Environmental spaces and conservation areas should be a key priority for the provincial government. People need nature for mental health and wellness and never before have we needed them more. These conservation areas have seen over 50% increase in use due to the pandemic. Amenities and public trails should be increasing, not being threatened.
