As a citizen of Ontario, I firmly believe that the government of this province ought to prioritize a climate plan that is consistent with the Paris climate agreement targets. Climate denial and inaction have enormous costs for our economy, our health, and our environment. Therefore, it is imperative that we have policy in place that aids in reducing emissions. We should not be scrapping the cap-and-trade program unless the Ontario government can propose a more efficient, alternate model. Furthermore, we should definitely not scrap the clean energy projects that are already in progress. The government should provide both incentives, such as rebates on green renovations and electric and hydrogen vehicles, as well as disincentives, such as a carbon tax. Climate change is the most important environmental issue on the table for the 21st century and the government should be prioritizing this.
