If the Ontario government is going to wind down the Cap and Trade program, then it either needs to institute some other form of carbon pricing on fossil fuels and other products that produce carbon emissions, or start winding down other fossil fuel based power plants and encourage the development of renewable power generation methods like solar and wind and providing incentives for Ontario citizens to retrofit their homes for energy efficiency.
Furthermore, if the Ontario government is serious about winding down the Cap and Trade program and not replacing it with another form of carbon pricing, then I would prefer the province to accept to the federal carbon tax plan rather than spending millions of tax-payer dollars to fight it in court. As a citizen concerned about the rampant effects of climate change and the detrimental effect it will have on our country in the coming decades I have absolutely no issue with paying more in taxes to fight climate change if it means having a secure future for myself and my children.
