I have been trying to build a house for my young family in the past year and a half. Due to supply chain issues and delays it has ended up costing 30% higher than we had budgeted for just in material alone. The icing on the cake was this regulation that had caused excavation for water and sewer to almost double in price from our original budget. We had hoped to have everything in place to provide water and sewer to our house last fall but due to more supply issues it got pushed until this spring. When we found out about this regulation starting Jan 1st, the cost we had planned for last fall doubled instantly. You want to make housing more affordable for people then we need to be cutting the cost to build a house and developing not increasing. This regulation doesn’t cut costs it just adds to the price of everything making house affordability out of reach for an already growing population.
