I applaud the decision to create Alfred Bog Provincial Park. Given the ecological importance and the fragility of bogs and considering that bogs take hundreds, perhaps thousands, of years to develop, we must ensure that they are preserved and protected. This is why hunting and all-terrain vehicles have no place in such a delicate ecosystem. Hunting is simply too dangerous for people and their pets who may be visiting the bog. All-terrain vehicles are too noisy and polluting in such a sensitive area. Rather, hiking, birding, photography and snowshoeing are more appropriate activities in a bog. Hopefully there will be signs throughout the bog to educate people, especially children, about the natural wonders and the environmental value of the bog, its plants and creatures. Alfred Bog Provincial Park should be a place to explore, relax and unwind while enjoying the peace and tranquility that such a sensitive area offers. I look forward to visiting it.
